Chapter 01

Where water goes when it should not

Most leaks announce themselves small: a drip at a faucet, a damp cabinet under the sink, a supply line with a crust of mineral at the fitting, a valve that weeps when you turn it. The ones that hide are in the wall or under the slab: a stain that keeps growing, a floor that feels soft or warm, a water meter that keeps moving when every tap in the house is off.

A burst pipe is the loud end of the same problem. Ainsley Tucker called Artesian Plumbing after one let go and wrote that the crew “had the pipe fixed in less than an hour.” Water damage grows by the hour, which is why a leak is worth a phone call even when it looks minor.

Finding the real leak before fixing anything

Artesian Plumbing's own description is that the plumbers “quickly diagnose and repair any leaks in your plumbing system.” The order matters. Water travels along pipes and framing, so the wet spot is rarely the leak. A careful plumber traces it back to the source, isolates the section, and confirms the fix holds under pressure before closing anything up.

Renee Elmer lives in a newly built home, less than a year old. Each time the original plumbers came out they worked a few minutes and said the leak was corrected, and the same problem returned. She called Artesian instead and wrote that they “explained exactly what the problem was” and repaired it “in just a few minutes,” the same leak that had gone on “over the course of an entire year.” That is the line lettered on the company's 2009 van, “Fix it the first time,” and it comes down to finding the cause instead of patching the symptom.

Leak repair starts from $155 and usually takes one to two hours. Artesian Plumbing is licensed and insured, and works in Chandler, Tyler, Athens and the towns around them.

Chapter 03

Before the plumber arrives, and after the repair

Find your main shutoff now, not during a leak. Turn it fully closed and open again once so you know it works. If water is running, shut the main, open a low faucet to drain the lines, move what you can off the floor, and take a photo of the stain so the plumber can see how it has changed. Shut off the water first, then call (903) 849-2393. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

After a repair, make the check a habit. Look under each sink, behind the toilets, and around the washing machine hoses once a month. Keep an eye on the water heater, where a drain pan like the one in the photo above catches a slow weep before it reaches the floor. To test for a hidden leak, read the water meter, leave every tap off for a couple of hours, and read it again. Any movement means water is going somewhere.

Artesian Plumbing is licensed and insured and family-owned in Chandler since 2005. Leak repair from $155. Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, at (903) 849-2393.
